Selgros Poznań modernisation: advancing retail efficiency with integrated CO₂ refrigeration

Located in Poznań, Poland, the Selgros store underwent a comprehensive modernisation to redefine energy efficiency and sustainability in large-scale retail. This project stands as a benchmark installation, integrating advanced CO₂ refrigeration and energy technologies into a single, high-performance ecosystem. The project was driven by the ambition to create a future-ready refrigeration system that would balance environmental responsibility with operational excellence. To achieve this, the solution was built around the natural refrigerant CO₂, combined with a seamless integration of high-efficiency refrigerated cabinets and a central refrigeration infrastructure. High-performance NordicLine solutions enhance energy efficiency, visibility, and store operations. The installation features a portfolio of advanced Costan NordicLine cabinets, designed for performance, visibility, and efficiency:MD5 vertical cabinet, a new generation multideck combining high performance with energy efficiency. It enhances merchandising flexibility while improving hygiene through smart design elements like integrated drainage and optimised airflow systems. SV5, a semi-vertical solution offering increased product volume within the same footprint. With enhanced visibility, additional shelving, and integrated piping, it ensures both operational ease and a strong visual impact. SV5 panorama island, vertical cabinet designed for premium product presentation, this island cabinet provides a 360° panoramic view, maximising product exposure and customer engagement. IS7 horizontal cabinet, a next-level freezer island delivering outstanding energy efficiency—up to 15–45% lower consumption compared to market alternatives. Its large glass surfaces and high display capacity create a perfect balance between performance and merchandising. Modernisation delivered tangible and measurable benefits, including consistent and stable refrigeration performance across the entire facility. It also resulted in a significant reduction in electricity consumption and operating costs, while contributing to the creation of a modern, energy-efficient retail environment aligned with sustainability goals. The success of this complex installation was driven by strong cross-industry collaboration. Key partners included FrigoConsulting, responsible for design and technical supervision; Enex Technologies, which provided advanced compressor racks; and Güntner, supplying high-performance evaporators and air coolers. This partnership approach ensured precision, innovation, and seamless execution at every stage of the project. Bartosz Jankowiak, Director of the Technical Department of Transgourmet Polska Sp. z o. o."The modernization of the Selgros Poznań facility at Zamenhofa Street resulted in a clear improvement in energy efficiency and refrigeration system stability, with Epta playing a key role as a committed partner, actively supporting the project from the concept phase through to the final commissioning of the solution."Joanna Lenk, Managing Director of Epta Polska Sp. z o. o.“I’m truly proud and grateful, that we as Epta Polska team, have met the high expectations of Transgourmet Polska and FrigoConsulting by delivering a solution that fully leverages the potential of CO₂ technology. Thanks to advanced refrigeration units and high-performance refrigeration cabinets, we achieved optimal evaporation levels: -2°C (MT) and -26°C (LT), significantly improving the energy efficiency of this large facility. I would like to thank our client, Transgourmet Polska, for their trust and our partners for their professional cooperation on this important project.”
